Quincy Adams Brooks crossed the Plains in 1851 to Olympia, Oregon Territory. A lawyer by training, he became the first prosecuting attorney north of the Columbia River. He also served as secretary to the Superintendent of Indian Affairs for Washington Territory and Oregon, 1856-1860 and assistant quartermaster general of the Oregon State Militia during the Modoc War, 1872-1873.
